Revitalizing Language, Strengthening Culture

 

The Ulu Initiative is committed to preserving and perpetuating Indigenous languages through our Indigenous Language Classes. These classes provide a space for learners of all ages to immerse themselves in traditional languages while deepening their understanding of Indigenous cultures and histories.

Join us for engaging discussions as we explore Indigenous literature, share perspectives, and celebrate the power of storytelling. Each month, we select a book written by an Indigenous author and meet to discuss themes, cultural significance, and personal reflections.

DANCE CLASSES

Move with Purpose, Dance with Culture

 

The Ulu Initiative’s Indigenous Dance Classes offer an opportunity to connect with the rich traditions, history, and storytelling of Pacific and Indigenous cultures through movement. Each class is led by experienced cultural practitioners and is open to all skill levels—whether you’re a beginner or an experienced dancer, you’ll find a welcoming space to learn, grow, and celebrate cultural expression through dance.

What You’ll Learn:

CULTURAL ARTS & CRAFTS WORKSHOPS

Honoring Tradition Through Hands-On Creativity

The Ulu Initiative’s Indigenous Arts & Crafts Program provides a space for community members to learn and practice traditional crafts passed down through generations. Through hands-on workshops and guided instruction by cultural practitioners, participants will explore the artistry, history, and cultural significance behind each craft.

What You’ll Learn:

HOMESCHOOL PROGRAM

A Learning Journey Rooted in Indigenous Culture

The Ulu Initiative’s Cultural Homeschool Program is designed for homeschooling families seeking a rich, hands-on education that integrates Indigenous knowledge, cultural traditions, and community-based learning. This program provides students with an immersive experience that connects them to the languages, arts, histories, and traditional practices of Indigenous peoples.

This program is open to homeschooling families with children of all ages who are interested in Indigenous culture-based education.

MENTORSHIP PROGRAM

Guiding the Next Generation 

The Mentorship Program provides youth and young adults with hands-on learning opportunities alongside skilled cultural practitioners, educators, and community leaders. This program is designed to empower the next generation by fostering leadership skills, cultural knowledge, and career development in traditional and contemporary Indigenous arts, education, and community service.

PROGRAM FOCUS AREAS:

🪶 Cultural Arts & Craftsmanship – Work with master artisans in weaving, carving, tattooing, and other traditional art forms.
🎭 Performing Arts & Dance – Train under experienced cultural dancers, musicians, and drummers.
📖 Language & Storytelling – Learn from fluent speakers and cultural historians in preserving Indigenous languages and oral traditions.
🌱 Sustainability & Traditional Practices – Engage in Indigenous agriculture, herbal medicine, and land stewardship.
🔥 Leadership & Community Service – Develop leadership skills through mentorship, event planning, and outreach projects.
💼 Career Development & Indigenous Entrepreneurship – Gain real-world experience in cultural business, non-profit work, and educational programming.
